One of the more attractive woods found in Florida is rosewood. A type of East India rosewood, the type found here is so common it is often referred to as "Florida rosewood."
There are many different varieties of bowls suitable for turning bowls, and many, such as sycamore, mango, eucalyptus and magnolia are available from time to time.
Put a foot or pedestal on a bowl and it becomes a slightly different type of piece, which could be used for, depending on its size and shape, a server for candy, pastries, etc., or perhaps to hold a pillar candle.
